The Beginning of a new Rookie era...

Monday 1st february 2010
The day began early for the seven candidates for the Management Team. They met with the interview committee – made up of our coaches and two (impartial) students from our class. Interviews were conducted and after what we believe to have been a difficult few hours, a decison was made as to who the final four were.

As for the remainder of the class, our day started much later, when we all met at “Trouw” in Amsterdam at 3. Kwela Hermanns, one of our coaches, decided that we should start by 'warming up' so we played a 'Ninja' game. It was essentially a way to break the ice, make fun of yourself and relax around each other – which it seemed to have achieved. Following this the Management Team was officially introduced to us. Our commanders on this Rookie ship are:
Leandro: General Manager
Birgit: Marketing/Communications Manager
Sanne: Financial Manager
Stefanie: Creative Manager

Everyone seemed to be content with the choices, so the topic moved on to the teams. Finally, we would find out who we will be collabortaing with for the next 6 months. Our team consists of:
Vincent van Dijk Project Leader
Shane Hagens Marketing Manager
David van der Kroon Finance Manager
Yana Kovtun Creative Manager
Quynh Nguyen Legal Manager
Kelly Noble Contact Manager

The task: Discover your values as a team
Armed with a sheet of paper and a pen, we set off to our corner to get acquainted. Setting ourselves apart from the rest, who were named after fruit, we dubbed ourselves 'The Beers.' Happy with our name – albeit a temporary one – we began the discussions on what sort of basic etiquette we would like to see when conducting business, whether with clients or within the group. It seemed as if we all had a similar way of wanting to conduct business, and were coming from the same place, which is a great way to start! After about 20 minutes all the groups convened to review what each team had done. It was an exercise to see how each team's values differ, or are similar, to your own team's.
To carry on the bonding experience in a more relaxed atmosphere we headed across the road to Canvas for dinner. Settling in to our tables we got to talking about our passions, where we hope to go, what our experiences are within the field and our preference in music. As with earlier, we seem to be a pretty like-minded group, so all indications at this point are that we will work well together.
Dinner was welcomed with open arms at this point as it was 7pm and we were all starving!

And so Rookie begins...
As a pre-emptive manoeuvre, we were only required to be present at Rookie at 11 (10.45) on Tuesday. After the dinner the previous night it was greatly appreciated.
The first portion of the day was spent clearing out the office area, claiming areas for our group and familiarising ourselves with our surroundings. Once that was done it was time for our first guest lecture. Wes Wierda, who was the previous coordinator of Rookie, welcomed us to Rookie Music International as well as did a Q&A session. After a short break Kwela Hermanns gave us a rundown of the things we needed to get done before the end of the week. Back to the office we went to get started, and to begin our brainstorming sessions. Before we knew it it was 5 o'clock and time to go home. Our first full work day looms ahead of us...
