Get them smooth and silky and New pioneer of music industry

Here we fly, the most exciting part of every proposal is to correct MT's (management team) comments on it. That's exactly what we are busy with today office day!

But for now let us introduce our potential client - muzyQ.
It is a brand new home for all style's of musicians, recently opened in Amsterdam!

Based on the Apple IT infrastructure, fully packed with all the necessary instruments, offering around 80 rehearsal rooms, recording studios, coffee shop, music instruments shop, rooms for events and much much more, beyond ordinary rehearsing place, muzyQ gives a new perspective on how to make your art work even more successful!

A particular respect goes to the ear-friendly pannels placed everywhere in the venue to protect its residents from the hearing problems. This issue became widely discussed in past decades. The professionals of music industry are those mostly affected by sound on daily basis, therefore it is cruicual to take a good care of the ears. muzyQ was the first one in Europe to undestand this value and implement innovative ear-proof technologies in its venue. So, for those acts willing to work on a new level of comfort and quality, muzyQ is the right place!

Yesterday our Rookie soccer league had next qualifying match between Everybody and Russia (just to support my author’s patriotic feelings) =)
So, of course Russia won, and brilliant players were nicely captured on camera right from the office window. Here is the photo report:

Project Proposals DONE !

So, here we are ...
Rookie, week 3 is almost over :)

We finished the project proposals today and are very excited about our new developed concepts.
The only thing that we are now waiting for is the approval from the Management Team.
After that we are finally able to actually contact the people to get our projects started !

During that long day we had a few classes : IPL and and an introduction to the MEM studios. I think it's going to be very cool and interesting to get some training on how to use the equipment in those studios. After all, we are still "media students" and need some practical experience.

Our whole team also finished each individual's job description.

So, all in all we were quite productive today and can't wait for the holidays next week !

Of course, we are going to miss the office hours in Rookie but a bit of being away won't be too bad either ;)

Project Proposals!!!!

Today we started working on the project proposals. We decided to narrow down to two concepts. We are doing a proposal on MuzyQ and the Local Band Tour. The ideas of the South African tour and the JAM IT concept are going to be included in the MuzyQ concept. The South African artist as an addition and the JAM IT concept for the marketing.

In the morning we had a meeting with Kwela, which was very useful. We discussed what was going to be in the project proposals and listened to her opium and feedback. We talked about our ideas and how we can encourage the creative progress.

We divided the tasks on who is going to be working on what concept and what part. I and David are working on the local band tour. David researched various possible venues and made a start with the actual report. I looked for possible bands we can take on tour. I listened to them and looked at their internet profiles. I have a quite good roster right now and I hope we will be able to work with a few of these bands. Yana, Vincent and Kelly worked on MuzyQ. Quynh was sick today. Yana and Kelly worked on the content which include: Workshops, showcases, live event, African bands, band fish bowl, promotional marketing, exhibition and even an speed – dating concept for bands how are seeking members and musicians who are seeking for bands. So a lot of creative ideas: ). And vincent was looking at the financial part.

For the rest we had an master class from Kick Klimbie who worked with Rookie, EMI and other various international music companies. He talked about how those companies work and he gave some tips for working out concepts.

Tomorrow we have to hand in the project proposals so we still have a lot of work to do!

Another start of the week at Rookie!

For us, the second years IMM students, Rookie went into it's second official week today. As the weeks progress so do our ideas and concepts that we would like to realize. Today we pitched our ideas to the management team and the experts working at INHolland. The concepts we pitched were as followed;
  • the muzyQ concept
  • our local bands tour concept
  • our South African artist tour concept
  • our street musician/Jam it concept
We received valuable feedback on our concepts and the things we need to keep in mind when we develop them further.
For now our tasks consist of finalizing the project proposals and adding content to our concepts. We all have specific tasks for the concepts but we have regular meetings to bring each other up to date. So at the moment it's all about taking the ideas and concepts we have right now and making them financially and commercially viable to execute later in our Rookie period.

Besides working on the concepts we have regular meetings with our management team to ensure a good group dynamic and productive project groups. As an added bonus the Rookie IMM project groups all went to lunch together today to celebrate finishing the pitches!

We still have a busy week ahead so check back for updates on our concepts and the time we spend in Rookie Entertainment!

Concepts

The whole point of this Rookie is to conceptualise then realise something within the entertainment industry. The first stage is, obviously, to come up with the type of events you want to work on as a team.
In the end, we submitted 5 concepts to the Management Team

An (inter)national music conference with as the main theme; how to monetize music. The conference would be aimed at musicians, artist managers, bookers and other relevant positions in the music industry.

A conference was an option given by our coaches, who already had a client lined up. Another group had also opted to create a concept for this, however we see no reason as to why we couldn't work together on making it one great event

Associating music with fashion has always been one of the key factors to sell music. The best example of a musician being a trendsetter is the US pop singer Madonna who started her career in the early 80’s and is still considered as the Queen of Pop. So, an idea would be to have a fashion show with the AMFI (Amsterdam Fashion Institute) of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, the SAE Institute and the Dance school of Hogeschool INHOLLAND or a another Dance school.

Have one band perform on one stage, than let another band play in an opposite stage. This way the audience will keep twisting. It might be cool to have a lot of stages, but of course it’s also doable with two stages.

1 band from Haarlem, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Den Haag (the specific cities can still be changed).Arrange 2 gigs in every city, which makes for a total of 8 gigs. This way every band will get his own audience to his own city, and perhaps even in other cities. The band who plays in its own city will be the headliner for that show. So if they play in Haarlem, the band from Haarlem will be the main act.

The original concept was to “export” South African bands to the Netherlands for a couple of weeks and organise a tour – mainly to gain them overseas exposure. Ideally at least four bands but funding will be the determining factor.
Research has indicated that there are some cultural grants/funds available for African artists, and creating awareness of African culture/arts, shifting the focus of the originally intented tour style from 'mainstream' genres of music (pop/rock/indie etc) to a more 'ethnic' feel.

Idea: Several street musicians and bands from different locations on the streets are connected via Internet streaming broadcast and jam with each other at the same time, performing life in front of the big public. The jam is shown to the audience on the big screens with the overview of the other jamming artists on them so the audience, actually, has a feeling of seeing big jam life at one time from different spots

Second day of the second week (09-02-2010)

Hi there,

A lot of work has been done today. We have finished our concepts today, and also came up with some new ideas. Apart from the rookie concepts, we have also finished our IPL concepts. In the end we had five innovative new products, and tomorrow we are going to see which one we are going to use for the rest of the course.

But back to the office, it has been a good rookie day today. As I have said already, a lot of work has been done. But we have also done some team spirit exercises, and I have played soccer with Shane, and with Bas, Maxime and Kenny of team Baseline.
Tomorrow after school, we (from InRecords) are all going to eat together after school and have some drinks in Haarlem. We will probably do a pub crawl (sometimes called a bar tour, bar crawl or bar-hopping). But we all hope that Yana is fine tomorrow, since she left sick today at twenty past four today.

That’s it for today,

InRecords

PS I listened to Sandhy Sondoro today, and it is really good. Have a listen to it.

The Beginning of a new Rookie era...

Monday 1st february 2010
The day began early for the seven candidates for the Management Team. They met with the interview committee – made up of our coaches and two (impartial) students from our class. Interviews were conducted and after what we believe to have been a difficult few hours, a decison was made as to who the final four were.

As for the remainder of the class, our day started much later, when we all met at “Trouw” in Amsterdam at 3. Kwela Hermanns, one of our coaches, decided that we should start by 'warming up' so we played a 'Ninja' game. It was essentially a way to break the ice, make fun of yourself and relax around each other – which it seemed to have achieved. Following this the Management Team was officially introduced to us. Our commanders on this Rookie ship are:
Leandro: General Manager
Birgit: Marketing/Communications Manager
Sanne: Financial Manager
Stefanie: Creative Manager

Everyone seemed to be content with the choices, so the topic moved on to the teams. Finally, we would find out who we will be collabortaing with for the next 6 months. Our team consists of:
Vincent van Dijk Project Leader
Shane Hagens Marketing Manager
David van der Kroon Finance Manager
Yana Kovtun Creative Manager
Quynh Nguyen Legal Manager
Kelly Noble Contact Manager

The task: Discover your values as a team
Armed with a sheet of paper and a pen, we set off to our corner to get acquainted. Setting ourselves apart from the rest, who were named after fruit, we dubbed ourselves 'The Beers.' Happy with our name – albeit a temporary one – we began the discussions on what sort of basic etiquette we would like to see when conducting business, whether with clients or within the group. It seemed as if we all had a similar way of wanting to conduct business, and were coming from the same place, which is a great way to start! After about 20 minutes all the groups convened to review what each team had done. It was an exercise to see how each team's values differ, or are similar, to your own team's.
To carry on the bonding experience in a more relaxed atmosphere we headed across the road to Canvas for dinner. Settling in to our tables we got to talking about our passions, where we hope to go, what our experiences are within the field and our preference in music. As with earlier, we seem to be a pretty like-minded group, so all indications at this point are that we will work well together.
Dinner was welcomed with open arms at this point as it was 7pm and we were all starving!

Tuesday 2nd February 2010
And so Rookie begins...
As a pre-emptive manoeuvre, we were only required to be present at Rookie at 11 (10.45) on Tuesday. After the dinner the previous night it was greatly appreciated.
The first portion of the day was spent clearing out the office area, claiming areas for our group and familiarising ourselves with our surroundings. Once that was done it was time for our first guest lecture. Wes Wierda, who was the previous coordinator of Rookie, welcomed us to Rookie Music International as well as did a Q&A session. After a short break Kwela Hermanns gave us a rundown of the things we needed to get done before the end of the week. Back to the office we went to get started, and to begin our brainstorming sessions. Before we knew it it was 5 o'clock and time to go home. Our first full work day looms ahead of us...
